F.A.Q.
What means of communication are there in Chupaca
and Huancayo? There are the most basic ones: Internet, phone and mail.
Are there banks, in case you want to take out
money from a cash machine? Yes, in
the city centre there are
banks where you can take money out from the cash machine.
You can also exchange travellers cheques.
What can I bring for the kids? Every donation is gratefully received. You can bring either clothes or
school material and books to teach English. (Please have a look at the project and
donations link).
Can I support or participate in any of the projects that you are undertaking? Of course. We will guide you through the process and you will hopefully see the results.
Do I have to be a professional or a specialist
in a particular area? No, however
if you are a professional it could be beneficial to help teach the children new
skills as we want them to learn new things which they can use in the future. It
is most important for them to gain self-esteem, feel loved, and have smiles on their
faces. We want to build their confidence so that they feel useful in society.
Could we come as a couple? Yes, we accept couples and can arrange to provide rooms with double
beds. We want you to feel comfortable.
Is there any vegetarian food? Yes, of course. There are restaurants which serve vegetarian food.
Do you offer vegetarian food in the program? Yes, we can prepare vegetarian food if you want. It is important
that you let us know, so that we can make the necessary
arrangements.
Do I have to take Spanish classes? Depending on your level of Spanish you may wish
to take classes as it will help you to learn a bit more about our culture and make
it easier to
share your ideas with the children you are going to work with. In addition,
your payment for the classes will support the teachers and also help to sustain our organisation.
Where are the weaving classes taught?
The classes are taught in the house of “Peru,
Luz de Esperanza”. You will have the opportunity to learn how to make ponchos, throws, bedspreads and find out a
bit more about our culture. Your payment for the classes
will also support the teacher and our organisation.
What sort of clothes should I bring? Dark clothes are preferable and we recommend
that you bring many layers to accommodate the changes in weather conditions during
the day. Sturdy boots are also a preference. Please refer to the link about the climate.
What can I do in my free time? You can enjoy your free time
by taking in the culture
that the region offers. You could also read, go to the internet café, take walks
or eat out in one of the restaurants in the city centre. There are also optional
tours for your enjoyment. When you arrive we will give you an introduction about the region and discuss the different
things you can do to enjoy your stay.
When I start working, is somebody going to give me guidance? Yes, of course. As soon as you arrive we are going to allocate
a member of staff to you, who will show you around the volunteer places. We will also give you maps to help you get around.
To whom and when do I have to make the contribution requested by “Peru Luz de Esperanza”?
We prefer that your contribution is made the day you arrive. This enables us to be able to distribute the funds earlier rather than later. Your contribution should
be given to Elizabeth.
