F.A.Q.
What means of communication are there in Huancayo?
There are the most basic ones: Internet, phone and mail.
Are there banks, in case you want to take out
money from a cash machine?
Yes, in the city center there are
banks and you have the possibility to take money out from the cash machine.
What can I bring for the kids?
Every donation is gratefully received. You can bring clothes or
school material and books to teach English. (Please have a look at the project and
donations link).
Can I support or participate in a project
that you are offering?
Of course. We are
going to guide you through the process and you are going to see the results.
Do I have to be a professional or a specialist
in a particular area?
No, what we need are
institutions or people who would like to do something for us and want to help. We
want the kids to learn new things, which they can use in their future life.
We would like them to get back their lost self-esteem and feel loved by you.
We want to see the smile on their face when they feel that somebody is supporting
them. They should have confidence again in the fact that they can be useful in society.
Could we come as a couple?
Yes, we accept couples and can arrange to provide rooms with double
beds. We want you to feel comfortable.
Is there any vegetarian food in Huancayo?
Yes, of course. Huancayo is known for its diversity of food. There are
restaurants which only serve vegetarian food.
Do you offer vegetarian food in the program?
Our staff can prepare vegetarian food if you want, but it is important
that you let us know, so we can arrange everything.
How does the organization “Peru, luz de esperanza” work?
We are a group of young people who like to work in a team. We don't
have class division in our organization. The director and the staff speak the voice
of the street. They identify with the people from the villages because they come
from similar villages themselves.
Do I have to take Spanish classes?
We think it is important for you to take Spanish classes because you
are going to learn a bit more about our culture and it is going to be easier to
share your ideas with the kids and young people you are going to work with. In addition,
you support the teachers with the money you pay for the lessons. They are workers
and people in need, who teach you for a tip in return for their study expenses.
This money is also used to sustain the organization.
Where are the weaving classes being taught?
The classes are taught in an equipped room in the house of “Peru, luz de esperanza”.
You are going to learn how to make ponchos, throws, bedspreads and also learn a
bit more about our culture. With your inscription at the classes you
are supporting him and since he already is a member of the organization he only
wants the best for all.
What sort of clothes should I bring?
On the link about the climate we tell you what season we are in. According
to that you can bring adequate clothing so you feel most comfortable.
What can I do in my free time?
The volunteers can enjoy their free time after their volunteering hours
by taking part in cultural activities the city offers. You could also take walks
in the evenings or eat out in one of the restaurants in the city center. At your
arrival we are going to give you an introduction about the place and the different
things you can do to enjoy your stay.
When I start working, is somebody going to give me guidance?
Yes, of course. As soon as we now when you arrive we are going to allocate
a member of staff to you, who is going to show you around to the volunteer places
and we are going to give you 3 maps, which should make your work easier.
To whom and when do I have to make the contribution requested by “Perú luz de esperanza”?
Your collaboration should carry out it the day from your arrival to
Huancayo to be able to distribute it and not to have any setback later, your donation
will carry out it to the lady Directora Elizabeth Tinoco Chinchilla.
