Programs
General Indications
The children will not have to pay anything for the help that is
given to them. Our aim is to get our country out of these arrears and that the children
and adolescents offer us just a little smile which, for us and them, is a sufficient
motive to continue offering help to more people. Help will be offered in the villages
surrounding Huancayo, as the statistics signal that in those villages, poverty is
extreme and overwhelming. Volunteers will work Mondays to Fridays, 4 -6 hours per
day, depending on the program. This makes Saturdays and Sundays days for rest and
visits to places in and around Huancayo (tours). For whichever position, volunteers
do not necessarily need to be professional in the given area. What is important
to us, is that the volunteer shares the experience which he/she got in his/her country
working with children or adolescents within a certain area (see working areas).
His aim should be to help raising in people a feeling of being useful within their
society, to help recover their low self-esteem, brought about by violence and social
poverty, and to help them get to do work on their own. It is up to the volunteer
whether he/she wants to bring any material, working tools or donations, that would
serve his work with the children and adolescents.
General Activities for all Volunteers
Educational aspect
The most important part is to promote the education in any of the
areas, as the children and adolescents have not gone to school and their a academic
level is very low. For this reason, it is important to teach them with love and
understanding. The classes should be prepared by the volunteer according to the
level of the children. Personal aspect: The children need to learn about their rights.
Therefore they need to experience moral and ethical values, such as respect, tolerance
and honesty towards each other. The majority of the children have never had a proper
childhood, and they need to learn to be children again, so that they can learn how
to live in society. This could be done with activities in which they are encouraged
to express and share their emotions. Emotional aspect: Most of the children have
hardly experienced any love in their lives, they have grown up in an environment
essentially marked by hostility and violence. This is why the emotional aspect constitutes
an important pillar for the creation of stable relationships between the children
and the adolescents; the volunteers will act as role models in this aspect, and
with their affection and care they will contribute to the development of the children's
self-esteem.

Teaching of the English Language:
The work will be carried out in a previously rented and equipped room. It is the
volunteer who will do this work, as it is his native language (he doesn't need to
be an English teacher). If the volunteer wishes, he can have a person to support
him. We wish that the child or adolescent learns English, so that he will be able
to promote tourism in our region by himself. We would like him to have the necessary
skills to communicate and to transmit our region's culture to tourists from different
countries. The teaching of the English language will be complemented with activities
and games, according to what the volunteer believes is appropriate, and in this
manner a trusting and joyful environment should be built up, that will enable the
child or adolescent to strengthen his friendships with everybody, so that this child
will have the possibility to recover the confidence lost through violence, poverty
at his home and in society. At the end of the volunteering period, the pupils will
make an exhibition of what they have learnt, as a goodbye, in gratitude, to the
volunteer.
